Poor rude service

Called Aug to reduce monthly shipment from 6 to 3books a month. Was assured Sept would be correct as was several weeks away.

Sept 19 received 2 shipments (3 books & 6 books) Called to find out why received 9 books. Sandra said it was because I made a change. The six books were already in the system and could not be changed but were able to add the 3 actually requested. When asked why "the system" could add books but not replace next shipment with 3 weeks notice.

I paid the 2 invoices before reviewing the books and found that the shipment of 3 books are DUPLICATES of books in the larger shipment.

I want a refund but SANDRA HUNG UP ON ME. Will have to try AGAIN for a correction.

After the introductory books came, I was thouroughly disappointed by them and decided to cancel my account. I cancelled my account personally within an email with Angela, she never replied, they charged my card again and they are continuing attempts in charging my card daily, which I have locked but get notifications of the attempts. This is a huge scam and I regret ever trusting their word for being reputable, and to cancel my account.

Report them to www.ic3.gov

I noticed a charge on my account today. It was Harli Bks. I had no idea who there are. I've never gotten a letter like some other people on this site. The charge was for 50.62. WHAT??? I called the number associated with the charge. After 20min, I spoke with a woman whom sounded high or drunk. She spoke over me the whole time, was rude to me and said tough luck, just so you know you will be charged every two weeks 50-70.00. There is no way to get rid of them, so I filled a complaint about internet fraud through www.ic3.gov/ I will be contacting the AARP so they can contact their members about this scam, as well as BBB. I spoke to my local police department and they have received 40 calls from women and men whom are the over 65 years group since the beginning of January 2020. I live in a small town and we are being hit with charges from this book company. If this is happening to us, it is happening all over the country. A commonality is that none of us got a letter that some people mentioned in other complaints, none of us knew who this company even is, none of us subscribed to this if it is like a magazine subscription. This company is a scam. BEWARE!

They charged my bank account twice

I received a shipment of six books from Harlequin's Love Inspired Suspense line. They were good books. When I went to pay the invoice online, on August 2, I found their website very confusing, but went ahead with the payment. When I looked at my online bank statement, I saw that Harlequin had charged my bank account TWICE. First I called them, spoke to a man who didn't give me his name, and asked if the second charge could please be reversed, and if not, to credit it toward my next shipment of books. He assured me the charge would be reversed, and no further action would be necessary. Three weeks later, on August 27, the charge still had not been reversed. Not only that, the account with Harlequin was not showing that ANY payment had been made at all. I sent an email to Customer Service on the 27th, detailing the issue and asking them to please resolve it. The next day, August 28, I received an email from the Ebooks Customer Service (I don't know why it came from that department), with a very short message that I could contact customer service by phone. That was it. There was not even an apology. So today, August 30, I called the number listed on the email, spoke to a woman who did not give her name, but she told me neither one of the payments had been sent through and I still had a balance due. I told her BOTH charges to my bank account HAD gone through and the one was never reversed. She flat out refused to take any action unless I sent her a copy of my bank statement to prove to HER that the payments both went through. I told her I was not about to give her access to my bank statement, whereupon she told me, "Well, I'm sorry then, but I can't do anything for you." Their customer service people are rude and not helpful at all. This is the crookedest service I've ever run across!

Harlequin - Deal Review

stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full stars-rating-full
I found a letter in the mail. It said I could get two free books and a free gift if I just put a sticker on a reply envelope. I did as they instructed and I got exactly what they said. Then some time later, I got a box with five more of those wretched books and a butter knife as my free gift. After a few months, I got a bill from that *** company saying that I owe them $22.96. I wish I could turn back time and ignore that *** letter. I wish I just ripped that thing to shreds. My advice; don't open that envelope, for the only "free" thing you get is a *** ton of trouble.

If you read what it said, you would have known that you needed to either call them or send the card back in to say that you were not interested; otherwise they assume that you are joining the club.

The only person at fault here is you for not paying attention to the clear directions.

Readers Club Member. I never received anything such as a letter.

Somehow they got my account number and I have been charged 50.62. When I called their customer service they said tough luck.

The person you responded to is not at fault either. You must be a tRump advocate...advocating for rip-off artists.

Harlequin Reader Service Scam

Harlequin Reader Service Scam

One day I got two "free" books in the mail, and I could cancel receiving books I would have to pay for in the future if I didn't like the first two. The problem is, I received four more books on the same exact day and now I'm stuck with a bill for $25.

They would gladly accept the books back, but only if I paid thirteen dollars in shipping to get them back to them. What a joke.

I am never going to buy a book published by Harlequin again, and I would advise anyone to do the same. It's time companies know they are at the mercy of the consumer.

Similiar here as well. I answered a PCH sweepstakes, if I got this or other free stuff then I could enter one of their sweepstakes.

I have never received the little books, but was charged by PCH for their shipping and handling, I think it was close to five bucks. Today my checking account was charged another 50.62. I called, could not get through to PCH customer service so I called the number on the charge against my account as it had an 888 number posted on the charge. The customer service person said tough luck, you will be charged as well as 50-70bucks every few weeks.

I will be filing a .gov internet fraud case, as well as contacting AARP and BBB.

This is what my local police department recommended. This was not the first complaint against this Harlequinn books place that they have received and they mentioned they are targeting older people like me.

Guest

If you didn't want to books, why did you not just write refused on the box and give them to the mail carrier or take them to the post office? Did you call them the same day?

I have been with Harlequin for several years, and will continue to buy books from them. They are a great company to deal with. I have NEVER had any kind of issue with them regarding a shipment.

You could also tape the package together and take it to the post office. That would not cost you $13 to ship the books back.

Guest

I just got an invite for a trial of their "Love Inspired" series for $1.NOWHERE in the invite does it detail the specifics if I choose to continue with the subscription.I'll take advantage of the trial offer, and if like the author of this post, experience the same outcome, I'm prepared to take legal action against them, along with creating a petition. There is ZERO transparency here. You may ask why I would follow thru with the invitation and the potential outcome. Because I want to make a point to them, by taking legal action and creating a petition, showing them they cannot continue to promote in this manner.I'm subscribed to a few other subscription book services which are not Harlequin, but started as a trial. Significant difference is ALL pertinent details of how the subscription service would be administered if I chose to continue, WITHIN the trial offer invitation, were provided.

Guest

When you received the next books, you should have wrote Return to Sender and then sent in the card that said thank you for the 2 books, but not interested.

Guest

The same thing has happened to me and they are sending multiple letters that say "Pay in full to avert Future action". This will go to collections! How should this be successfully and quickly handled to avoid paying something I did not order?

Guest

Thank you! I learned the same too.

I had two free books one month, and then they charged after. I am never doing that again.

Guest

If you ever get paperback copies of series books in the mail and you don't want them. All you have to do is not open them and write "RETURN TO SENDER" on the front of the package.

Put it in the mail and it won't cost anything. Then you can still CANCEL your membership or return any future shipments as long as they are "UNOPENED".

Guest

I just got the same. Mad *** wILL FIGHT THIS!!!!!
